There are different types of UTP cable categories , and the numbers refer to their revision .
CAT1 is for telephone and doesnt support network traffic . The wire isn’t twisted . It is use by phone companies for ISDN.
CAT2 is use for token rings networks up to 4 mbps.
CAT3 is use for network up to 10 mbps .
CAT3-4-5 are 4 pairs twisted copper wires.
CAT5e support 1gigabit network.
CAT6 is use for network of more then 1 gigabit and contains a physical seperatir between the 4 pairs to reduce electromagnetic.
2 popular wiring schemes standard are T-586A and T586B
they differ in which color coded pairs are connected – pair 2 and 3 are reversed

UTP cables are terminated with standart connectors , RJ-45 and Punchdown .
The cross-over (X OVER) UTP
The x-over cable allows us to connect two HOSTs like ; PC to PC , switch to swtich , hub to hub or router to router .
only 4 pins are needed for a x-over cable ,

2->6
3->1
